Tuesdays With Dorie – Oatmeal Nutmeg Scones

by Jessica on May 24, 2011

Oatmeal Nutmeg Scones

Scones or super-soft cookies? They may look like they’re ready to be dunked in a glass of milk, but trust me, this is no cookie. This is a scone… one that is filling, but spicy, and warms the soul with just one bite. Granted, I’ve never seen such flat scones before, so for now, we’ll just call them ‘rustic’.

Since the dough never would come together for me, it was like I was playing in a runny bowl of oatmeal. And it was incredibly, unbearably, over-the-top humid the day I made these, so I’ll just blame the weather for this one. čÖé

These were sooo good. Love the nutmeg in them. Sometimes dough just doesn’t want to play nice. But as long as they tasted good……

I think they look good! I find the humid weather really does effect most baked goods- not just things white egg whites.

I think they look good as cookies. Mine came together nicely. I’m not sure why. I’ve seen a few others who couldn’t get it to come together. Must be the humidity.
Great photos!

I like your round scones. Half of mine were a bit flat, the other half wasn’t. It’s a mystery.

Wow, they look like oatmeal muffin tops (which is, as everyone knows, the best part!)

I blame the humidity for a lot of things to, including why I skipped this one. These look perfect for an autumn day!

They do look like cookies, but these were sure good! I added dried apples to mine which added a nice bit of sweetness.

They look nice! Mine didn’t turn out so well, but that’s how it goes sometimes.

The scones look great – big oatmeal cookies indeed! Kudos to you for even trying to bake in humidity…
