French Fridays with Dorie – Savory Garlic Cheese & Chive Bread

I love a good quick bread. The ingredients, the ease of putting it all together and the amount of time it takes to bake up makes for a perfect recipe. And this version by Dorie? No exception. It’s so perfect that it doesn’t even need a smear of butter. It was only missing one thing, though. Because I couldn’t live without it, I added a clove of minced garlic to the wet ingredients before mixing them in with the dry. It completely took the bread to another level… and the smell that was coming from the oven was ahhhh-mazing. I’d say it’s not Weight Watchers-friendly (even with skim milk) but I did enjoy a little corner of the loaf before I passed it on to Momma G. Seriously, I about died and went to heaven. 🙂

I agree, garlic sounds like a nice addition. I also liked how this recipe incorporates both grated and little cubed pieces of cheese – the color of your loaf is pretty and vibrant.

Beautiful shots of your great results. I barely made the recipe deadline this week so was not too creative in changing up the initial recipe, but do love your garlic idea. Nana is also a big garlic fan so I am sure we will be trying that one next time. Great post —

Great idea to add garlic…that would have made mine much better, I think; plus larger (and more ) chunks of cheese, like yours!

I’m surprised that one clove of garlic made such a difference in the final product. Very creative idea to add that.
