Tuesdays With Dorie – Apple Cheddar Scones

by Jessica on July 1, 2008

Apple Cheddar Scones 2

I was a little wary when I read this week’s recipe on the TWD board. I wasn’t sure what apples and cheddar would taste like together in a scone. I do remember my grandpa eating cheddar with a slice of apple pie and my dad sitting alongside him doing the same thing… so I figured, it couldn’t be that bad. I’ve also wanted to try my hand at scones, so I headed to the store to find those elusive dried apples.

I know the guys at my local grocery, so I knew I’d be searching for these babies on my own. 🙂 After going down each obvious aisle (snacks, produce, baking, etc.), I was about to give up and get the dried cinnamon apple/cranberry mix (thus having to pick out all the apples in the bag). Finally, as I was heading to the checkout line, I noticed all these dried fruits and nut mixes. Hallelujah!! Dried apples… at $1.99, no less!

Apple Cheddar Scones

These weren’t my absolute favorite, but they were pretty tasty. I’d love to try them with different add-ins or maybe even apple butter… how yummy!!

I agree, I would like to try them with a few more add-ins to give them a more pronounced flavor. Yours look very pretty though.

Those scones are beautiful as are your waffles and danish braid. There’s a lot of butter being passed this week between DB and TWD!

These weren’t my favorite either, but your pics are hot, and isn’t that what matters? 😉

Your post made me remember I have some caramel apple or cinnamon apple butter in the freezer to dig out and try with these. Good job!

Yummy, I’m going to bake off the other half of my batch tonite and have them with soup (again)!
