Poached Pears

Here’s how I got the pears ready for Dorie’s Fluted Polenta & Ricotta cake!! 🙂

Pears a-poaching...

Poached Pears

1-1/2 c sugar
2-1/2 c water
1/2 vanilla bean
1 lemon
4 to 5 Bosc pears (or any other variety)

Combine sugar, water, vanilla bean and juice of lemon in a deep skillet. Bring to a boil, stirring until sugar is dissolved. Add 4 to 5* peeled, halved and cored pears, and simmer until tender (15 to 20 minutes), turning several times. Let cool in syrup.

*I only poached 3 to 4 pears since my only skillet wasn’t deep enough to hold all of them.  Sounds like I may need some new cookware… 😉
